Are There Tornadoes?
TORNADOES? YES. EGG SIZE HAIL? YES. CRAZY COLD WINTERS? YES.
While moving to SC tornadoes were NOT on my radar. They happen in Oaklahoma, Arkansa, Tornado Alley, far away.
Well in FEB 2020 an EF1 tornado touched down 20 min away from our home (Spartanburg). It went through downtown!
[My joke about it is when the tornado visited the unimpressive local mall he stopped in his tracks and evaporated because there was nothing worth destroying LOL]
So these things do happen even here. Thats why its important to download a local news app on your phone. SUPER IMPORTANT. When the tornado was headed towards downtown Spartanburg my phone sounded a loud alert. The app had live video showing me the exact path of the tornado and the timeline minute by minute of where it was headed. After you download the news app, my TIP is try to mute the news notifications, because the daily shootings and murder headlines can get annoying.

Most recently our area experienced EGG SIZE HAIL! Thats bigger than a golf ball!! This hail came out of nowhere and it damaged cars and roofs. Our friends cars had both been damaged, even though they are usually garaged. If you want your cars to be covered make sure you have full coverage on your cars, not partial coverage. Call your agent to verify.
Winter days can get very cold at night, but they warm up during the day. Below is a pic of January snow in our backyard.
At night temps can drop -10C , and its actually snowed 2 out of 4 years we’ve been here. So when you move to Upstate SC you can expect to get a taste of all four seasons.
