North Myrtle Beach

SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE: Go to North Myrtle Beach and skip regular Myrtle Beach. North is considered more family friendly whereas the original Myrtle Beach has become a crime ridden drug-dealing gang town.

True Story: I’m not even exaggerating. Last time we went to Myrtle Beach (south) in 2020 there were 2 drive by shootings right by the beach.. and instead of fresh air we were treated to a constant breeze of pot smoke. Our hotel was one of the nicer ones on the strip too 😅

North Myrtle Beach is about a 4hr drive from the Upstate. We like to stay in hotels right on the beach with kitchenettes. Most nicer hotels require a minimum 3 night stay.

This particular Resort Hotel we stayed at featured outdoor and indoor pools. When you are done swimming in the ocean you can relax with a hot tub soak. Some kids might prefer the toddler pools.

Balcony ocean views are the best. In the summer there are alot of storms (they pass quick!). Rainstorms and beautiful lightning displays can be easily enjoyed if you have a balcony.

Do you have a favorite spot to visit when you go to the ocean? Dont forget to bring the beach umbrella, beach blankets, and plenty of sand toys for digging! Folding chairs are a plus.
